Handmade Eye pillow with Lavender
What is an Eye Pillow?
Eye pillows, also known as dream pillows, are mask shaped or rectangular pouches made from a fabric such as cotton or silk and filled with scented or non-scented herbs.
At one time, eye pillows were called comfort pillows and were used in sickrooms to ease nightmares and to disguise the scent of illness. Herbs such as flax seed, lavender, chamomile, eucalyptus, and rose petals were used as fillers in eye pillows to help comfort the sick and ease them to sleep. Lavender is said to be a natural anti-depressant and to help with insomnia, stress, and headaches.
Eye pillows are typically used to shield the eyes from light and to apply a gentle relaxing weight over and around the eyes.

Story of my "Melanthy"
This fabric I bought, I sewed a highwaisted, tight short skirt with it following the pattern of one of my favorite skirts ever. I must confess I was extremely proud of the result. I was amazed by the succes of copying the pattern, inserting the zipper, the button and the button hole, adding the decorative buttons on the right spot at the waist, and the entire skirt once it was ready. As a total beginner though I had no idea how important the type of fabric is. The original skirt was a bit stretchy while this one was not stretchy at all. The result was me not being able to zip it all the way...
The skirt became a present for a dear friend of mine. She became so happy to recieve it that I completely forgot the disappointment that zipper had caused me!
Who was "Melanthy"?
The actual name is Melantho but since I was very little Melanthy was a name I loved. I might have even made it up since I have never met a person called Melanthy.
Melantho was described as having a "sharp tongue" and was among the favorite female slaves of Penelope, treated like a daughter by her, having been given trinkets and other small gifts.
Despite having been much cared for by Penelope, Melantho was disloyal and ungrateful to Odysseus and his household. She was one of the female slaves who often sleep with the suitors of Penelope, a characteristic which is evident by her relationship with Eurymachus.
Upon Odysseus's arrival in his own house, disguised as a beggar, Melantho treated him harshly and rudely asked why he has not gone to sleep in the smithy, the location where chance visitors in Ithaca tended to go.
After Odysseus kills all of the suitors, it's not clear if Melantho is among the other slave girls that are forced to clean the hall and then hanged by Telemachus.
