Handmade Eye pillow with Lavender
What is an Eye Pillow?
Eye pillows, also known as dream pillows, are mask shaped or rectangular pouches made from a fabric such as cotton or silk and filled with scented or non-scented herbs.
At one time, eye pillows were called comfort pillows and were used in sickrooms to ease nightmares and to disguise the scent of illness. Herbs such as flax seed, lavender, chamomile, eucalyptus, and rose petals were used as fillers in eye pillows to help comfort the sick and ease them to sleep. Lavender is said to be a natural anti-depressant and to help with insomnia, stress, and headaches.
Eye pillows are typically used to shield the eyes from light and to apply a gentle relaxing weight over and around the eyes.

Story of my "Themis"
My mom passed away many years ago. Many of her belongings I gave to people who loved her. Many things were stored in boxes somewhere until last year when we had to move them from there. My dad, my brother and I all live in different countries and none of us in Greece anymore. Not being able to bring everything home we opened all the boxes and sorted everything. We gave them to friends, to a friend of mine who helps drug addicts in recovery to start a new life, to recycling and to church.
When delivering the bags at the collecting point of the church, I ended up talking with the lady in charge. She sensed how heavy for my soul my mission was and I could tell she wanted to somehow ease my pain. She walked to the back of the room and returned with a piece of fabric in her hands. Neatly folded and all new I could tell. She handed it to me and said, “We got this last week, I want you to have it”
I accepted it with a smile, my heart filled with warmth.
